"Ah! I was hoping to come back in one of the Avengers films and come after Gwyneth Paltrow, because that's what they set up, that I was going to get revenge on Gwyneth for getting me arrested or something," Rockwell stated.  "I could do a Cape Fear thing with Gwyneth. But they've got a lot of mojo in there already, so I don't know if they need another pirate like me in the mix there! [Laughs.] Maybe [Agents of] S.H.I.E.L.D. is the way to go."

The character could make an appearance down the line, especially since director Joss Whedon has not confirmed the villain of the new film. For the first "Avengers" movie, Whedon brought in Loki from the "Thor" franchise to serve as the chief antagonist. Whedon did confirm that Loki would not be in "The Avengers 2" but has not stated which baddie the legion of superheroes would face off against.

Many have speculated that Thanos, the villain showcased in the end credits sequence for "The Avengers," would be the villain of the upcoming movie. However, Whedon hinted that Thanos could be saved for the third installment of the series.

"Well, Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful he is not someone you can just try out and punch him. Like he did in the comics, you want him to threading through the universe and to save the big finale for 'the big finally'. He is definitely a part of what I have got going on," said Whedon. "The thing about the Avengers is that they are very powerful but not very stable. So, there will definitely be some people that will shake them up in the next installment."

"The Avengers 2" is slated for a 2015 summer release. Other films set for release in the summer months of 2015 include "Star Wars Episode VII," "Jurassic Park 4," "Assassin's Creed," "Terminator 5,' " Independence Day 2," and " Pirates of the Caribbean 5" amongst others.
