Samsung Galaxy S2 owners expecting to get a bump in Android versions anytime are going to be sorely disappointed with the way things work out, as it looks like Android 4.2.2 won't be landing on the handset anytime soon.

Android 4.2.2 was expected to be the last firmware update Samsung releases for the Galaxy S2. The update, however, looks to be causing some problems for Samsung.

The newer Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones were expected to receive Android 4.2.2 sometime in June. However, it looks like Samsung ran into problems in porting over the Galaxy S4's TouchWiz interface, and as of now, there is no updated release time frame. Some expect the rollout in July or August, but there's a far more haunting scenario.

Samsung could wait until November to release Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 because of lagging Galaxy S4 sales. Although it's been revealed that the Galaxy S4 has moved an impressive 20 million units so far, it seems Samsung isn't happy enough. Rumor has it that Samsung might hold off until it can release Android 5.0 for the Galaxy S4 before bringing Android 4.2.2 to the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. This way, the Galaxy S4 will always have something over its cheaper cousin: a newer Android.

The only reason that matters for Galaxy S2 users is because: 1) If Samsung is having trouble porting it over to the Galaxy S3, there are going to be more problems bringing it over to the S2, and 2) Samsung always updates newer devices before older ones. In the worst-case scenario, the Galaxy S2 might not get Android 4.2.2 until December, or even next year.
