The streets of San Francisco are in gridlock and there is no telling when the BART strike will end, but we're here to help.

Although the BART strike continued for a second day on Tuesday forcing 200,000 daily Bay Area Rapid Transit train riders to find an alternative way to get around, there was one piece of good news: labor negotiations were set to resume later in the day, reports MercyNews.com.

After a 36-hour break at the bargaining table, BART management announced it would meet at a neutral office with mediators and union leaders in another attempt to hammer out a new contract.

However, workers and residents in the Bay Area should still expect massive congestion on the roads and long lines on the ferries.

If you're in the Bay Area, here are some tips for your commute on Wednesday via the SFGate:

  • Use carpool lanes at the Bay Bridge toll plaza and along Interstate 80 are in effect from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Find out how you can join an organized car pool at www.ridenow.org/carpool.
  • In San Francisco, Muni is prioritizing service on the 14-Mission and 49-Van Ness corridors.
  • In East Bay, you can take one of the AC Transit shuttles which is running every three to five minutes during peak hours between the Transit Center at 20th Street and Broadway in downtown Oakland and the temporary Transbay Terminal in San Francisco.
  • BART is running limited charter bus service from the Walnut Creek, El Cerrito del Norte, Fremont and Dublin/Pleasanton stations to near the Transbay Terminal.
  • BART will also have 36 charter buses traveling between the West Oakland Station and the Transbay Terminal.
  • San Francisco Bay Ferry is running extra boats from Oakland, Alameda and Vallejo.
  • Both SolTrans from Solano County and WestCat from West Contra Costa County are increasing service to San Francisco.
  • In Peninsula and South Bay, SamTrans is running a free shuttle from the Colma and Daly City BART stations to Mission Street near the Daly City-San Francisco border where riders can connect to Muni.
  • Capitol Corridor trains run from Santa Clara north and connect with buses at stations including Emeryville Amtrak.
