Lionel Messi presented supplementary income statements to the Barcelona tax authorities from 2010 and 2011 and paid an additional 10 million euros, Spanish publication La Vanguardia reported.

According to La Vanguardia, the payment could mean that the player is seeking an agreement with the treasury to avoid a harsh sentence stemming from amounts claimed from 2007 to 2009. Sources confirmed that Messi has already paid 10 million euros in taxes for issues that relate to the use of his image for the fiscal years of 2010 and 2011.

The Barcelona star acknowledged that a greater amount was due regarding his tax statements and he is seeking an agreement that will allow him to clarify what happened during the three years that are currently under investigation.

The Economic Crimes Prosecutor of Barcelona sued the player and his father, for alleged tax fraud on June 12. The Messi family was charged with three offenses relating to the years years of 2007, 2008 and 2009, for allegedly evading payment on more than four million euros for his image rights offshore.

Lionel Messi's lawyers will have to testify on behalf of the defendants on September 17 in a Gava, Barcelona court for alleged tax fraud. The forward's legal team has stated that their client has "scrupulously complied with Spanish legislation."
