The awards ceremony was broadcast live from the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami, and was themed after superheros. The awards show included 25 singular categories that celebrate Hispanic youth's tastes on everything from music, film and sports, to fashion, novelas, pop culture and more. This year's biggest winner was Prince Royce who took home eight awards in categories including "Red Hot Artist," "Catchiest Tune," "My Favorite Video," and "My Ringtone."

The awards show was hosted by La Que no Podia Amar star Anna Brenda Contreras. During the broadcast, two "Premios Juventud" scholarships were awarded to two high school seniors of Hispanic heritage. Based on academic achievement, financial need and a short essay submission, the scholarship was given to Stephanie Perez from Florida with $50,000 and Margarita Bolaños from California with $25,000, sponsored by State Farm.

One of the aspects that make the awards show so popular is the fact that the winners are chosen by the public through the online page premiosjuventud.com. This year users also decided which song Juanes played during this performance. Another new feature this year was that they were able to see live backstage streaming during the broadcast. The stream was hosted by Paola Pedroza ("El Talismán"), and featured real-time fan commentary from Twitter and Facebook.  Winners were also given the opportunity to thank those they weren't able to on stage on the exclusive "Thank You Cam". Users were also able to view photos from "Premios Juventud" fan parties around the country, and vote in live interactive polls during key moments of the show on the "Premios Juventud" forum.

Before the awards Univision broadcast their annual blue carpet event which hosted some of the year's hottest fashion, with the arrival of superstar performers, presenters and guests. Hosts Alejandra Espinoza ("Sábado Gigante"), Ana Patricia González ("Despierta América"), Veronica Bastos ("Sal y Pimienta"), celebrity fashion guru Rodner Figueroa ("Sal y Pimienta") and comedian Omar Chaparro, reported from the blue carpet.
