There has been some questions as to if and by how much the price of video games would rise for the next generation of consoles. When the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were released, the price of games rose ten dollars to $60 per game, and some expect that same $10 jump to happen again. Well now Gamestop is reporting that one major company has set the price of games to remain at $60.

Microsoft has announced that they will not be bringing the cost of video games up for their Xbox One console. Sony had previously made a similar announcement, saying that games on the PlayStation 4 will cost between 99 cents and $60. Though some analysts predicted the cost of games would rise,  with the two big console makers set on delivering games for the current price, it does not seem likely that publishers such as EA, Ubisoft, and Activision would attempt to raise the price to $70. An EA executive said previously that he expected the price of games to rise, so the possibility is still there, but at this point it is slim, due to Microsoft and Sony's stance on the pricing of future games.

No doubt this is great news for gamers on a budget, as those who have been saving since the beginning of the year for a next-gen console will not have to deal with price increases on the new consoles. $60 is already a steep price to pay for a game, especially when developers and publishers expect gamers to buy into microtransactions and DLC for their favorite games.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are slated for release by the end of the year, with Microsoft confirming that the Xbox One will be available in November. The Xbox One will cost $499 at launch, while the PlayStation 4 will retail for $399 whenever it launches.
