Kingdom Hearts 3 may have been the biggest surprise sequel game to be announced during E3 this year. Few, if any, fans were expecting to see the game during E3, as Square Enix has been quiet concerning the game's development for some time. With the announcement, however, a chain reaction of speculation has been triggered. Everyone wants to know which franchises will show up in the sequel and there is no absence of voices predicting the future of Kingdom Hearts.

Specifically, in the years between Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3, Disney has acquired Pixar, Marvel, and LucasFilm. As it turns out, series creator Tetsuya Nomura was also curious if characters from the franchises could appear in the upcoming game. As he relates to IGN:

"Whenever I hear of the news, I always say, 'woah...they've done it again. The first thing I do when I find out this news is contact Disney and see if it's something I can use [in Kingdom Hearts]...Disney's companies are all very different. Sometimes the answer is 'absolutely no,' and sometimes the answer is, '...hmm, we don't know...'"

Though Nomura's answer is not very encouraging, it sounds like if characters such as Iron Man, Darth Vader, or Buzz Lightyear could appear in Kingdom Hearts 3, Disney would let him and the developers know.

"Disney's pretty honest. If the situation is really difficult, they'll say, it's really difficult. If it's impossible, they'll say it's impossible."

Kingdom Hearts 3 has been confirmed as in development for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with no release date set yet. Past versions of Kingdom Hearts have included characters from various Final Fantasy titles mixing it up with characters from Aladdin, Pirates of the Caribbean, Beauty and the Beast, and even Winnie the Pooh. Even having a cameo appearance by some characters from any of Disney's recent acquisitions would be an amazing experience for Kingdom Hearts fans, especially after waiting all this time for the game.
