Mexican actor Demian Bichir will appear on the cover of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly this week alongside Diane Kruger to promote "The Bridge," an upcoming series on FX.

"The Bridge" tells the story of a murder investigation led by Sonya Cruz (Diane Kruger), who works as a U.S. Detective, and Marco Ruiz (Bichir), a Mexican police officer, who must work together to capture a serial killer who operates on both sides of the border.

The series is set on the border between El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico and is an adaptation from the show "Bron," which took place at the Denmark-Sweden border.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that FX president John Landgraf has high expectations for the show and already considers it a success.

"For years networks having been trying develop a drama series set on the U.S.-Mexican border without any success. I'm thrilled to say that Meredith Stiehm and Elwood Reid have become the first to crack that creative code, and they have done so magnificently. There have been great films set in that world - 'No Country for Old Men' and 'Lone Star' come to mind - but never a great TV series. This one is special." Landgraf said.

In the magazine, Bichir talks about his role in "A Better Life," which led to an Oscar nomination and about his other opportunities since he moved to Hollywood to pursue a career path in the United States.

Both Bichir and Kruger said they liked the idea of playing complex characters who are immersed in a gruelling reality.

"He's a really well-written character," said Bichir. "He believes he can make a difference, which is not an easy thing to do given the circumstances. But he knows how to walk on fire and not get burned."

"The Bridge" also has Mexican talent behind the scenes. The director of the series is Gerardo Naranjo, best known for his 2008 film "Miss Bala," which is about Mexico's ongoing drug war. The film earned the director an Oscar nomination and widespread acclaim. This is Naranjo's first time working in American television.

Once the show debuts, the new 13-episode series will continue to air on Wednesdays during the 10 p.m. EDT time slot on the FX network.
