As more research and analytical firms release their market share findings, the latest by comScore finally shed some good news for Apple.

According to comScore, during the three-month period ending in April 2013, 138.5 million people across the United States owned smartphones, which represented 58 percent of the overall mobile market. Within the smartphone percentages, Apple is responsible for 39.2 percent, an increase of 1.4 from January this year.

Samsung finished a distant second with 22 percent. The South Korean-based company saw a small increase of 0.6 percent from January's 21.4 percent.

HTC rounded up the top three with 8.9 percent, however, their percentage is down from January's 9.7 percent.

While Apple is king of the U.S. OEM market share, the Cupertino-based organization lost in the mobile operating system share.

Google's Android platform sits on top of the U.S. smartphone platform market share with 52 percent. Although Android is comfortably ahead of Apple's iOS platform, the Google OS is down 0.3 percent from January 2013.

The iOS is 12.8 percentage points behind Android, at 39.2 percent. Unlike Android, comScore reported the Apple operating system gained 1.4 percent in usage from January's 37.8 percent.

BlackBerry's mobile operating system maintained its third place rank with 5.1 percent, but it's down 0.8 percent from January's 5.9 percent. Microsoft's Windows Phone stayed at fourth place, despite losing 0.1 percent, it garnered three percent.
