"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is slated for release this December but little has been revealed about the film thus far. Entertainment Weekly recently unveiled a new image from the film as well as an interview with Evangeline Lilly about her character Tauriel.

The character has yet to appear in the saga thus far and Lilly not only provided information on her character's personality but also hinted at her relationships with other characters.

"She's slightly reckless and totally ruthless and doesn't hesitate to kill," said Lilly. The actress also revealed that a new love story will materialize in the upcoming film. "She will definitely have a love story... I can't give away too much about it. It's not a huge focus but it is there and it is important and it does drive Tauriel and her story and her actions."

She also added that the love story could involve a character seen in the original "Lord of the Rings" movies. "Tauriel's relationship with Legolas [played by Orlando Bloom] is significant," she noted. "They've known each other since they were children, and Legolas' dad, [Elven king] Thranduil, has a soft spot for Tauriel and sees something very special in her. So if you grow up side by side, and your dad has a very special spot in his heart for this young woman who's a fantastic warrior, I think it's hard not to notice her."

Lilly has appeared in "The Hurt Locker," "Afterwards," "Real Steel," and "The Long Weekend."

"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is slated for release on December 12, 2013. The first film in the new trilogy grossed $303 million during its run at the box office last winter.
