Microsoft's Internet browser has once again topped the desktop browser market share for May.

According to NetMarketShare, Microsoft's Internet Explorer, as a whole, accounted for 55.99 percent of the market share. Internet Explorer's share for May is an increase of 0.18 percent, a small bounce, but easily enough to finish ahead of Mozilla Firefox.

Mozilla Firefox secured 20.63 percent, ample for a second place finish. Mozilla also saw a small increase compared to April by 0.33 percent.

Unlike the previous two browsers, Google Chrome slipped by 0.61 percent. Chrome went from 16.35 percent to 15.74 percent for May.

Apple's Safari browser saw a minor bump into positive territory, going from 5.38 percent in April to 5.46 percent.

When breaking down the browsers to their respect versions, Internet Explorer 8 saw a loss of 0.09 percent, however, it is still the most used Internet browser at 22.99 percent. Internet Explorer 9 dipped by 2.78 percent for a second place result with 15.39 percent. Internet Explorer 10 finished at 9.26 percent, this time an increase by 3.24 percent.

The most used Mozilla Firefox browser is their version 20 with 10.38 percent. Firefox 21, although new, managed to secure a good 4.66 percent, narrowly ahead of Firefox 19's 4.35 percent.

As for Chrome, 9.85 percent of its users utilize Chrome 26, comfortably ahead of the more recent Chrome 27, which accounted for 3.66 percent.

NetMarketShare's data comes from 160 million unique visitors per month and monitors approximately 40,000 websites.
