Mountain Lion Release Date: 'Whispers' Signal to a July 25th Launch of Apple's OS X 10.8 Upgrade

Many Mac users know that the latest operating system upgrade for Macs, the OS X Mountain Lion, is slated for July as stated on Apple's website.

However, what they may have not heard yet is that Apple Stores in the U.S. and overseas have planned "overnights" for July 24th, according to reports. [9to5mac.com]

The website is citing that at least 3 "whispers" from sources have reported the same detail and by "overnights", it seems that local Apple staff crews may find themselves updating the Apple Store's look with new poster boards or images and may be preparing themselves for the launch of a new product while the general population is sleeping.

The website believes that THAT product might just be Apple's newest OS X Mountain Lion Mac users are waiting for and that Apple might be preparing to launch it the next day, July 25.

According to some sources [CBS], Apple is likely to follow its 2011 move of releasing its newest operating system following the company's earnings report call for the second quarter of 2012 scheduled for July 24. If true, the report does fit in well with the aforementioned rumor stating Apple staffers will spend the night on the 24th to prepare for some special event on the 25th. 

Mountain Lion Features

Mountain Lion was announced in February and its features were presented at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The OS's new features include a new messages app that integrates iMessage, voice dictation, Game Center, a notification Center, and eventually system-wide Facebook integration.

According to ZDNet a security feature known as Gatekeeper will also be available on Mountain Lion.

The operating system will also integrate Apple's mobile operating system IOS, which runs on both iPhones and iPads.

Mountain Lion will retail for $19.99 at the Mac App Store. Any user who purchased a Mac on June 11 or after will be able to obtain Mountain Lion for Free.
