The Olympics may be about physical competition and glory for a country, but there's another sport going on away from the spotlight that has no medals and gets most of the athletes excited - sex.

A recent report from ESPN reveals that the 10,000 atheletes who occupy the Olympic village during the summer Olympics do more than just focus on getting a gold.

Turns out the Olympic village where the athletes all live is really just one big steamy, raunchy melting pot of sex for the athletes. At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney the initial order of 70,000 condoms wasn't enough, and 20,000 more were ordered. Now, the standard has become 100,000 condoms.

"There's a lot of sex going on," says U.S. women's soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo. "I'd say it's 70 percent to 75 percent of Olympians."

The athletes who make it to the elite Olympic level train so intensely that when they get to the actual event itself, well, they need to blow off some steam.

ESPN's Sam Alipour writes, "Many Olympians are in tapering mode, full of excess energy because they're maintaining a training diet of up to 9,000 calories per day while not actually training as hard."

Solo also added,  "Athletes are extremists. When they're training, it's laser focus. When they go out for a drink, it's 20 drinks. With a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you want to build memories, whether it's sexual, partying or on the field. I've seen people having sex right out in the open. On the grass, between buildings, people are getting down and dirty."

London's Olympics are scheduled to begin on July 27 and have its closing ceremony on August 2012. The games will host 306 events in 26 major sports.
