Production on "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is in full swing. Along the way, videos of wild NYPD chase scenes and photos of the film's biggest stars have provided fans with a tantalizing taste of what's to come.

The latest photos come not from director Marc Webb, as they so often do, but rather from Getty Images. The stunning photos of Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy also offer greater insight into the plot of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" than most of Webb's photos, which generally show nothing more than the film's characters in their costumes and makeup.

Now the photos may not seem too revealing, but as MTV points out, the outfit Stone is wearing is curiously reminiscent of the one she wore in the 1973 "Amazing Spider-Man" #121 comic. In that particular issue, Gwen is thrown from a bridge and plunges to her death. And In the set photo, she stands worriedly, gazing out from the top of, you guessed it, a bridge. Her death defined her character 40 years ago. Would Webb stray from what made her so memorable?

The Spidey films have all teased at her possible death in "Spider-Man 3" and "The Amazing Spider-Man," so we could very well see the long awaited plunge of death in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." Still, nothing has been confirmed. Webb is careful not to give away too much in his photos, so why would he let one like this slip through the cracks? Perhaps he's playing with the fans, letting speculations run wild, or perhaps he'll revert from the original comic and have Spider-Man save her life, once again.

Here's the official synopsis for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," which hits theaters May 2, 2014.

In The Amazing Spider-ManTM 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy - between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away - but that's a promise he just can't keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
