On Friday May 3rd, a pit-bull saved a 44 year old woman during a fire.

Jackie Bonasera, a resident of Nassau County, Long Island told NBC New York that as she was drying her hair in the bathroom when her pit-bull Cain started barking loudly. Curiously, Bonasera ran downstairs to the front entrance and saw the flames burning the exterior of the house. She quickly ran to the garage and escaped.

She told NBC "I ran out of the house and my neighbors came running over, and then I thought about the dog -- I'm like, 'He saved my life, I have to save his." She added "So I just put my robe over my face and I ran back in and I grabbed the dog,"

Bonasera also said that she believed that had it not been for the dog she would have been trapped upstairs and died.

Alexus Stallworth, Bonasera's daughter, who was outside the house when the fire broke out around 1:20pm, called Cain "the town hero."

She added "He's a pitbull, too. They have such bad reps, but he's such a good boy."

According to reports no one was injured but it took 70 firefighters to extinguish the fire. The Nassau County Arson and bomb squad are currently investigating the cause of the fire. However the police believe it isn't suspicious.

This past Friday's case is the second in the year in which a pitbull saves its owner. Back in February a pitbull in Lincoln, Oklahoma saved her family from a fire. The dog, named Baby, jumped on Rhonda and Evelyn Westenberger's beds until they woke up. Baby also returned to the burning home to rescue several other dogs.
