Sorry folks, Google Glass might take a little longer than expected, that is if Google executive chairman Eric Shmidt's words are to be believed. In a recent interview with BBC promoting his upcoming book, "The New Digital Age," Schmidt hinted that Glass might not be available for commercial purchase for another whole year.

"It's fair to say that thousands of these will be in use by developers over the next months, and then based on feedback we will make some product changes, and it's probably a year-ish away," Schmidt said.

If Schmidt is indeed correct, then that would render previous reports that the device would launch before the end of 2013 moot. Those same reports also revealed that the price for Glass would be under the $1,500 that #IfIHadGlass contest winners have to fork over. No word on whether pricing has changed as well as the release date - we'll have to wait for Google to comment on that.

Google recently began distributing thousands of Glass devices to winners of the recent #IfIHadGlass contest. As a result of the eyewear going public, Google also revealed Glass's tech specs. Glass will come equipped with 12GB of usable memory, a 5-megapixel camera capable of 1080p video recording, and a display "equivalent of a 25 inch high definition screen from eight feet away." Audio will be delivered through a bone conduction transducer rather than speakers, and connectivity options include 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Users will be able to pair Glass, which runs on Android, with a cellular device, allowing it to take advantage of cellular networks as well.

Glass promises to be one of the most exciting new technologies available to the everyday consumer once it's released. Its price will be a huge factor for many, and while Google has stated that it wants to keep it as affordable as possible, the average buyer will have to wait and see what that means.
