The upcoming Pokémon games will feature a new pocket monster baring a likeness to the first Generation Pokémon Mewtwo.

Known as the Genetic Pokémon, Mewtwo has been known to the franchise since the first generation games in the mid 1990s, but Game Freak Director Junichi Masuda has provided an update that greatly affects the Team Rocket-made Pokémon.

During an appearance on the Japanese Pokémon sideshow "Pokémon Smash," Masuda and the show's presenters provided footage of a Pokémon with heavy similarities to Mewtwo, which will make its video game debut in "Pokémon X and Y."

But with one confirmation comes many unanswered questions.

Despite the confirmation, it is unknown if the new Pokémon is either a new form of Mewtwo, an evolution, or if it'll be counted as a separate entity, such as how Mew and Mewtwo are counted as separate Pokémon. Another unknown is the name.

According to a statement by The Pokémon Company International, "This new Pokémon shares many traits with Mewtwo and it's suspected that the newly discovered Pokémon has a connection with Mewtwo - a powerful Pokémon that debuted in 'Pokémon Red' and 'Pokémon Blue.'

A video clip was provided of the new Pokémon attacking Rampardos, Cloyster, Gyrados, Machamp, Zangoose, and notably Genesect.

"What is this new Pokémon? How will you encounter it in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y? When will you know more? One thing is clear, your readers will certainly want to debate the meaning of this new Pokémon!" added The Pokémon Company International.

The appearance of Genesect is important as the next Pokémon film "Extreme Speed Genesect: Mewtwo's Awakening" (not officially translated in the U.S.) will feature Mewtwo battling against five Genesects. With a Japanese release date set for July 13, an official movie poster for the film has been provided months ago, however, a second variation released last week baring similarities to the first show's Mewtwo looking different. Fans speculated about a new form, evolution, or if it was fan made. At alas, now the confirmation is made, it is not fanmade.

"Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" are set to be released in Australia, Europe, North America, and Japan in October 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS.
