UPDATE (April 7, 2013): Mystery about the Mewtwo form confirmed, click here for more.

--

A couple days before an official update for "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" is released, an image is circulating the web, one which could affect even the first generation of the franchise.

Several fan sites are debating the validity of an upcoming Pokémon movie poster as it features a different form of first generation legendary Pokémon Mewtwo. Known as the Genetic Pokémon, Mewtwo is confirmed to return in the next Pokémon film set to be released first in Japan on July 13. The film, "Extreme Speed Genesect: Mewtwo's Awakening" (not officially translated in the U.S.), will feature Mewtwo battling against five Genesects.

An official movie poster for the film has been confirmed for the last few months, however, a second variation, baring similarities to the first, show's Mewtwo looking different. Fans are currently debating if it may be a new form, evolution, or fan made.

If confirmed, it will not be the first time a new Pokémon is featured in a movie ahead of its video game debut. The new movie will be released with a Pikachu Short, which will feature sixth generation Pokémon Sylveon.

The trailer for the upcoming Pokémon film is available, but a U.S. release date is still unknown.

The Mewtwo rumor comes as the Japanese Pokémon sideshow "Pokémon Smash" will host Game Freak Director Junichi Masuda on April 7. Promotion for the upcoming episode will feature new reveals for "Pokémon X and Y." A teaser video, which has been uploaded to the Japanese Pokémon YouTube account features the Game Freak executive will a couple characters of the sideshow. The Pokémon Facebook page has also stated an update for the sixth generation game will be announced Saturday.

"Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" will be released in Australia, Europe, North America, and Japan in October 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS.

"We brought Pokémon into an entirely new dimension and we're incredibly excited to bring 'Pokémon X' and 'Pokémon Y' to fans," said Masuda in January following the announcement of the games. "The stunning visuals, a completely redesigned environment, game scenario, music, and communication features will bring smiles to the faces of video game players around the world."
