Daft Punk are making their long awaited comeback, and they're doing it right. Well, maybe that's an overstatement. The synth pop duo has yet to announce a tour to follow their May 21 album release, but the time will come. For now, Daft Punk will appease fans by teaming up with the Creators Project to launch a new series of video interviews with all of the collaborators on their upcoming new album, Random Access Memories.
The first interview features Giorgio Moroder, a resurgent disco legend who spent laborious hours with Daft Punk in the studio.
"What the world needs now is not only good dance songs, which I think are out. The world needs something new," he says in the opening line of the interview. He believes Daft Punk's new album will make a splash in the electronic music scene and will once again set the trend as they did in the early 21st Century. In addition to Daft Punk's superb innovation, Moroder also notes his admiration for their meticulous attention to detail.
"Thomas and Guy-Manuel, they are perfectionists. I remember I would try to find a sound on the vocoder and it would take me 20 minutes, maybe an hour," he says. "They told me it took them a week or so to find the sound, and then, I don't know how many days to do the vocals. I think they're going into every little detail. If you don't go into all those details, it's not going to be successful."
Moroder himself is a dance music icon. He talks about his first experience with a synthesizer, his work with Donna Summer and how he had a direct hand in the evolution of mainstream electronic dance music.
The legend expresses his awe and admiration for Daft Punk and his interview helps fuel the overwhelming excitement that surrounds the duo's upcoming release. More interviews are on the way, and if this first one is any indication, the album that follows will be revolutionary.
