An Android update may be on the way for T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

T-Mobile is reportedly among the last of the U.S. carriers to issue an Android Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, but a conversation on T-Mobile Support might have shed new information.

It started with Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 owner "bigball" asking when the Android 4.1.2 update will rollout.

"So the brilliant manager of the T-Mobile store assured me that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 already comes with the newest Android OS (Jelly Bean) already installed," wrote bigball. "Of course he was incorrect (I figured that) and that's OK because I'm assuming the OTA update is forthcoming soon. My question is if someone can tell me when that will happen. Any info would be greatly appreciated."

The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 owner was told the update is not available yet, but to check a specific T-Mobile link that provides the latest news on the Samsung tablet.

However, fellow forum member "cesaribenitez95" broke the news that he noticed an update. He also provided a picture regarding the software update.

The update read:

Android version: 4.1.2

Baseband version : T779UVTMC1

Kernel version: 3.0.31-10013161 se.infra@SEP-101 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Mar 5 01:55:02 KST 2013

Build number: JZ054K.T779UVTMC1

After a further look, it appears true. T-Mobile started the update, but there might an ongoing development with the matter.

"The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 software update to Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2/Software T779UVTMC1 is PAUSED until further notice," stated the software overview for T-Mobile's Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 support, dated March 26.

The update will be provided Over-the-Air (OTA). To manually check for the update, press "Menu," then "Settings," followed by "About phone," and touch "Software Update." Users should then follow the screen prompts then wait as the tablet restarts and updates.

The Android Jelly Bean update for the Samsung tablet has been provided earlier this month as well, but for Sprint customers. According to the carrier, the update features "stunning" graphical functions and enhanced features are included in the update. In addition, Google Now will be installed.

The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 features a screen size of 10.1 inches with 1,280x800 pixels and 149 pixels per inch. The tablet offers 16GB and 32GB internal storage variants with 1GB of RAM. The camera specifications include a rear-facing one at 3.15 megapixels with 2,048x1,536 pixels, and a front-facing camera at 640x480 pixels with VGA cam. With a 7,000 mAh battery capacity, the standby time is approximately 2,000 hours and talk time goes up to 10 hours. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is available in black and white color options.
