It has been confirmed T-Mobile will launch 4G LTE coverage in nearly 100 markets, but so far only eight markets have been located.

According to OpenSignal, their Android app found some of T-Mobile's new LTE network markets. The 4G LTE networks were located in Denver, Las Vegas, Kansas City, New Orleans, New York, San Diego, San Jose, and Seattle.

"The fact that our app has detected a T-Mobile LTE network in these cities suggests that they will be included in the initial LTE rollout," said OpenSignal spokesman Samuel Johnston.

The findings come after the carrier announced it will cover approximately 100 million customers by mid-2013 with projections to aim for 200 million customers by the end of the year.

T-Mobile's announcement makes it the last among the top four U.S. carriers to venture in 4G LTE, following AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless.

To assist in T-Mobile 4G LTE venture, the BlackBerry Z10 and Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 will be the carrier's first smartphones to be part of the network. OpenSignal added that the Galaxy S3 and upcoming Galaxy S4 by Samsung will soon be added to LTE.

"Obviously the network is under a very light load right now and these speeds will come down," Johnston said, via PC Mag.

T-Mobile is set to hold an event in New York City on March 26. The event details are unclear, but it is likely the carrier will discuss new service plans and more details on their LTE network venture.

Verizon is currently king of LTE coverage, blanketing more than 480 markets across the country for more than 275 million people. Coming in second is AT&T with only 155 LTE markets while Sprint's numbers places it third with 67 LTE markets. If T-Mobile's projections are true, then it could surpass AT&T and Sprint, although bare in mind those two networks will be aggressively upgrading as well.
