Days after Apple's latest iOS 6 update, it seems that bypassing the lock screen is once again possible.
As Latinos Post reported on March 19, Apple released iOS 6.1.3. The update provided a fix that previously allowed users to bypass the passcode and access apps within the device. The lock screen and passcode bypass issue has been a recurring issue since iOS 6 made its debut late last year.
The update apparently did not fix the problem.
A video on YouTube by user videosdebarraquito features a new security flaw that once again allows one to bypass the passcode and lock screen. The security flaw was shown with the new iOS update installed.
The bypass involves making a phone call through voice command then ejecting the SIM card.
"You should disable the "Voice Dial" option if you want to be safe," videosdebarraquito noted in the video's description.
It is unknown if the flaw exists for the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5 as the video tested the glitch with an iPhone 4.
The new iOS 6 update also included an end to Evasi0n's jailbreak. The update contains patches that Evasi0n utilized in order to perform the untethered jailbreak on iOS devices.
Evasi0n did prepare for this moment back when iOS 6.1.3 was in beta testing. Evasi0n's David Wang told Forbes in February that the then-beta update might signal the end of their hacking. He added he was still testing the patch if other vulnerabilities created by the jailbreak still function post-update.
"If one of the vulnerabilities doesn't work, evasi0n doesn't work," Wang said. "We could replace that part with a different vulnerability, but [Apple] will probably fix most if not all of the bugs we've used when 6.1.3 comes out."
The iOS 6.1.3 update is downloadable for the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, and the fourth and fifth generations of the iPod Touch.
