Rudy Eugene (L) and Ronald Poppo are seen in this combination of undated handout photos released by the Miami-Dade Police Department May 30, 2012. Eugene was fatally shot by police after he refused to stop gnawing on Poppo's face and may have been under the influence of a new form of the 1960s hallucinatory drug LSD, a top police officer said on Wednesday. The obsession with zombies continued as reports indicate that 21 year old Giovani Martinez bit a nurse, attacked a hospital staff, and threatened to eat off their faces and rape their wives.
Martinez was brought to the hospital following an arrest on a DUI charge in Naples, Florida. Martinez was arrested Saturday by Collier deputies at Airport Pulling Road and U.S. 41 because he was driving at 60 MPH on a 45 mph road and ran a red light.

When the cops stopped him, Martinez was found drunk with a spilled beer in the front seat of the car. According to WPTV, Martinez lied to authorities by stating that the beer belonged to his sister, but eventually rectified and admitted his own guilt. The cops performed a sobriety test on Martinez, which he failed.
He was transferred to a Naples jail, but when he became unresponsive, he was taken to the NCH Downtown Naples Hospital where he attacked violently.
As he was transferred from the ambulance to the hospital bed, Martinez began to punch and kick the hospital staff. His violence escalated to the point that he bit one of the nurse's arms and spit blood in their face before making the aforementioned threats. It took 20 minutes before authorities could control Martinez, who now faces three counts of felony battery on law enforcers and EMTs and a DUI charge.
Martinez' threats of eating people's faces off brings back memories of the May 29th Miami Zombie incident in which Rudy Eugene chewed on Ronald Poppo's face despite being shot by police officers several times. Eugene died in the incident and Poppo's face was mutilated. Poppo faces almost a million dollars worth of surgery and may be permanently blinded in one eye.
Martinez is the latest in a series of assailants who have drawn attention for replicating Eugene's gruesome tactics. A few weeks ago, a drunk man in Miami, Brandon DeLeon tried to bite police officers as they arrested him. A few weeks earlier, Alexander Kinyua, a Baltimore man, admitted to eating his roomate's heart and brain in an equally gruesome crime.
