Microsoft is not at the Mobile World Congress this year, but the company has issued a statement regarding their Windows Phone series.

Microsoft Senior Marketing Manager Greg Sullivan provided information about how their Windows Phone plan will differ from other mobile companies, which have followed the model of announcing a new device several months before its retail release.

"We're not going to do this thing where we announce the next version [of Windows Phone] months and months before it's available," said Sullivan, according to PC Magazine.

He later added. "Over the course of the next several months, I wouldn't be surprised to see some exciting new devices and more interoperability before we start talking about what [operating system] is next."

The next Microsoft mobile operating system is rumored to be "Windows Phone Blue," but Sullivan has not commented on it yet. Sullivan did note that current Windows Phone 8 customers will be able to upgrade to the next mobile operating system, unlike Windows Phone 7 customers who cannot update to Windows Phone 8.

Sullivan added, "We're going to have an upgrade path going forward. Windows Phone 8 can evolve. We have an architecture that enables portability and is fundamentally hardware independent."

"As the market evolves and customer requirements demand it, we'll evaluate options," said Microsoft's senior marketing manager.

The news comes as the Windows Phone 8 operating system continues to gain footholds in new smartphones models, such as the Nokia Lumia 520 and Nokia Lumia 720, which all made their debut at the Mobile World Congress earlier this week.

The two new Lumia smartphones hit the public's eye as the Windows Phone 8 Lumia 920 continues to see success for Nokia. The Lumia 920 has even been added to replace BlackBerry devices for the management team at Mall of America.

"When you combine this with all of the Windows Phone 8 platform's business capabilities, at a price we can afford, we've got a device we're really proud to use," said Mall of America I.T Director Janette Smrcka.

The Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 smartphone has a screen size of 4.5 inches with a 1,280x768 pixel resolution, 32GB of internal storage with 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 3,264x2,448 pixels with LED flash, and a 2,000mAh battery capacity.
