The Best Picture award went to "Argo." The film won three awards including Best Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay.

"Ang Lee" shocked the world by winning the Best Director award; he had taken home one precursor during awards season.

Daniel Day-Lewis took home his third Best Actor Oscar for his role in "Lincoln." He became the first male actor to win three Best Actor Academy Awards in the history of the Academy; Jack Nicholson has three Oscars, but one is for Best Supporting Actor. The Best Actress award went to Jennifer Lawrence for her turn in "Silver Linings Playbook;" it was Lawrence's second nomination and first victory.

Anne Hathaway won her first Academy award for Supporting Actress in "Les Miserables." The Supporting Actor award went to Christoph Waltz for his turn in Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained;" this is his second nomination and victory at the Academy Awards. Waltz won the award in the same category in 2009 for his performance in Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds."

Best Adapted Screenplay went to Chris Terrio for "Argo" while Best Original Screenplay was awarded to Quentin Tarantino for "Django Unchained." The victory was Tarantino's second; he won Best Original Screenplay for "Pulp Fiction."

Jacqueline Duran won her first Oscar for Costume Design for her work on "Anna Karenina;" it was Duran's third nomination. In the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category, Julie Westcott and Julie Dartnell won for their work on "Les Miserables.

In the technical categories, "Life of Pi" took home victories for Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects. "Les Miserables" took home the award for Best Sound Mixing while history was made with the Best Sound Editing Award. The award was given to two films: "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Skyfall;" there had never been a tie in the category in Academy Awards history. "Argo" picked up the Oscar for Best Editing. "Lincoln" took home Best Production Design.

In the musical categories, "Life of Pi" scored its third award for Best Original Score while Adele and Paul Epworth won Best Original Song for "Skyfall."

"Searching for Sugarman" won the Best Documentary award while "Innocente" won the Best Short Documentary. Best Picture nominee "Amour" took home the Best Foreign Film Award; it was the second time in Oscar history that an Austrian film won the award. Pixar took home its seventh Best Animated Feature Film Oscar for "Brave" while the YouTube sensation "Paperman" won Best Animated Short Film. "Curfew" won Best Live Action Short Film.
