Las Vegas police are on a "extremely focused" search for the occupants of a SUV that was involved in a shooting on the Las Vegas strip on Thursday and led to the death of the three people and left three injured, CNN reports.

The manhunt stems from a wild incident that took place around 4:20 a.m., when a black Range Rover stopped next to a Maserati at a stoplight on the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road and opened fire on the driver, identified as Kenneth Cherry Jr., who was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say the SUV then sped of from the scene but the Maserati drove into the intersection and struck a taxi. That led to a pile up that left the taxi driver and the passenger trapped inside the vehicle as it burst into flames killing both of them.

Police say they have received a number of tips about the sought after SUV but add that "at this point, we have no information that the vehicle in the crime has been located."

The SUV is described as a black Range Rover Sport with tinted windows, large black rims and a dealer license plate not from Nevada. Police declined to say how many occupants may have been in the car.

The victim, Cherry, was an aspiring rapper who went by the stage name Kenny Clutch, CNN reports.

"Out of everyone I know in the rapping industry, there is no way I would have ever, ever expected to find that he was shot on the Las Vegas Strip in such an aggressive manner," Vicki Greco, Cherry's attorney, said. "He didn't have a (criminal) record or a history. He was just a good kid trying to make it and be a good father."

The shooting happened only two box away from the Tupac Shakur murder scene.

The taxi driver has been identified as 62-year-old Michael Boldon. His brother, Tehran Boldon, told CNN the news of his death was "gut-wrenching."

"My life mission will be to see them punished and brought to justice for the senseless thing they did," he added.
