350-pound football players are usually reserved for positions on the offensive or defensive lines. It would be impossible for such a heavyset player to maneuver with such finesse as running backs like Adrian Peterson or Ray Rice, right? But perhaps speed and brute force are also a winning combination for a running back. Well, 350-pound David Fangupo has proved just that.

The massive running back has recently earned himself a Division I scholarship to Hawaii. The 6 foot 2 inch 350-pound recruit will graduate from Kailua-Kona Kealakehe High and play at his home state's university. Fangupo will be one of the largest running backs to ever play in Division I.

People may think that the player's speed is inhibited by his size, but it's quite the contrary. Fangupo's surprising speed and difficulty to tackle on the field gives cornerbacks and linebackers nightmares, especially at the high school level that he plays now. Here are some of his highlights from this past season, where he carried the ball 75 times and ran 534 yeards for six touchdowns.

"I felt like it was not real at the moment," Fangupo said, commenting on his recent scholarship. "I'm excited and feel blessed that they would do that for me."

Fangupo also received offers from BYU, Georgia Tech and Utah, but he chose to play for Hawaii so he could remain close to home, according to West Hawaii Today.

"It's just pretty much playing for my home team and family being around people I know. It goes from going to home (on the Big Island) to home again. All the support from my family is still there."

Some critics say that Fangupo's skills won't hold up against tougher defenses at the college level, but the University of Hawaii thinks that he will still have the upper hand. Let's hope so. Football hasn't seen a running back like this since Pittsburgh's Jerome Bettis, and he was only a measly 250. Such a colossal player will be exciting to watch.
