It has been mysteriously absent for quite some time now, but the wireless charging half orb for the Google Nexus 4 has finally hit the Google Play Store here in the United States. Nexus 4 owners can now enjoy the luxury of not having to finagle with chords (on top of no contracts) for $59.99.

"Charge your Nexus 4 wirelessly with this Qi inductive charger. Its angled surface provides easy visibility of your phone while charging. This elegant device was designed specifically for your Nexus 4 -- no clunky add-ons or accessories needed," Google writes in its product description.

And they're not lying. The half orb-like accessory looks elegant enough to fit on any desk, and the Nexus 4 sits on top with its screen facing up so that it can still be used, like a mini stand.

Google lists the charging time as being four hours, and the wireless charger will ship in under one week. The wireless charger is only available in the U.S. Google Play store at the moment.

Google was expected to have the wireless charger ready for purchase soon after the Nexus 4 launched back in November of last year, but for an unknown reason, the accessory has just been made available to buyers.

The mobile industry is moving to make wireless charging more of a standard option as new smartphone designs are forcing manufacturers to go thinner and pack more powerful hardware in - leaving little space for the bigger battery such technology requires. Wireless charging can help mitigate battery drain, plus it's convenient and other manufacturers like Samsung are making it clear they believe in it.

Let us know if you pick up the Google Nexus 4 wireless charger and what you think of it.
