On Feb. 14 Warner Bros. will open "Beautiful Creatures" starring Emmy Rossum, Alden Ehrenreich, and Alice Englert.

Richard LaGravenese's film tells the story of Ethan who longs to escape from his small Southern town. On his journey he meets a mysterious new girl, Lena. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history, and their town.

The film is based on the Kami Garcia and the Margaret Stohl novel of the same title. It is also the first book of the Cami Chronicles.

Critics have been split on the film with Hollywood Reporter stating that it is a "Well-made hokum about ill-advised teen love across a species divide."

Screen International was not as enthusiastic stating "Beautiful Creatures may temporarily fill that commercial void for Harry Potter, but this Southern tale of witchcraft and adolescent hormones doesn't cast much of a spell."

LaGravenese last directed "Water for Elephants, and "P.S. I Love You." Ehrenreich will be seen this year in "Stoker" alongside Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska and in the new Woody Allen film "Blue Jasmine." Englert last starred in "Ginger and Rosa" as well as the Sundance hit "In Fear." Rossum is currently on the TV series "Shameless."

"Beautiful Creatures" also stars Academy Award winners Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson. Other cast members include Viola Davis, Thomas Mann, and Eileen Atkins. The movie is rated PG-13 and is expected to unroll in 2,900 theaters.
