The students of schools in Newton, Conn. have a happy moment to enjoy thanks to the high school boys' basketball team. Tuesday night was senior night at their home court, and the team won the game 57-56 over New Milford with a buzzer-beating three-point shot by senior Mike Daubert.

Daubert was second on the team in scoring with 13 points, with his only three-pointer of the night making the difference. Senior Connor Quinn led the team with 16 points. Three players had three assists to tie for the team lead, and three players also had a Nighthawks-high two blocks. Senior patrick Riccardi had nine rebounds, the most on the team by five. The Newtown High Nighthawks are 8-8 so far this season and 3-2 in league play. The Newtown season schedule and results are available here.

The girls' basketball team was the first one to hold a varsity even after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, playing just five days later on Dec. 19. The Nighthawks won by 20 points in the game at home.

Both the boys' and girls' teams lost their closest game to the shootings on December 14. They each lost the night before.
