Nokia Lumia 920s have been getting a Nokia Maps update, as the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 across the globe expect to be receiving a new version of the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system, called Portico.

First, there are reports from WMPoweruser that unbranded versions of the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820 have begun to receive the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 Update, firmware version PR1.1, codenamed Portico. The update has been spotted in Italy and Germany, as well as for Lumia 820s in Russia.

As we reported before, the Portico update, which has already rolled out in the United States, fixes several bugs on these Nokia smartphone models and provides some increased performance. Portico resolves the random restart bug which has been affecting Microsoft Windows Phone 8 devices, as well as improves the start-up sequence, Bluetooth, text message reply and deletion, battery management, and Internet Explorer.

In addition, according to Technobloom, the Nokia 920 is getting a new version of the Nokia Maps app, which includes enhanced map clarity, better orientation, and improved precision. Maps for Israel and Serbia are included in the release, as well as higher details in rural Sweden, Norway, Ireland, France, Greece, and Russia. Pedestrian paths and small parks are now represented in the international Nokia Maps update.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is Nokia's premiere smartphone. Running the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system, it has sold consistently well since it was released in November of last year. The Lumia 820 was released at the same time as the 920 and is a scaled down model of the more expensive Lumia 920.
