"Argo" is now the Oscar front-runner after winning the Best Ensemble award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The race has been three-horse race since the nominations were announced with "Silver Linings Playbook," "Lincoln," and "Argo" as the favorites. "Argo" picked up momentum with a win at the Producer's Guild and the SAG win propels it forward. Many questioned whether the film had a chance after being ignored at the Best Director award. However, the two straight wins almost assures the film an Oscar win.
Jennifer Lawrence vaulted herself into the Oscar front-runner for Best Actress with a win for that award at SAG. Daniel Day Lewis won his 31st Best Actor award and his Oscar victory is assured at his point.
Anne Hathaway continued her winning ways with a victory of the Best Supporting Actress award. With this victory, her 27th, Hathaway has essentially guaranteed an Oscar victory. Tommy Lee Jones took over the Best Supporting Actor race with a victory for his turn as Thaddeus Stevens in "Lincoln."
"Skyfall" picked up the award for Best Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture while "Game of Thrones" picked up the same award for TV.
Bryan Cranston picked up the Best Male Actor in a Drama Series accolade for his turn in "Breaking Bad and Claire Danes won the Best Female Actor in a Drama Series award for her performance in "Homeland."
The TV show "30 Rock" had a big night with wins in the Male Actor in a Comedy Series (Alec Baldwin) and Female Actress in a Comedy Series (Tina Fey). However, the series fell short of winning the Best Comedy series ensemble award; "Modern Family" took home that honor.
In the Best Female Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries, Julianne Moor won for her turn as Sarah Palin. Kevin Costner won the corresponding Male Award for his turn in "Hatfields and McCoys." "Downton Abbey" won the best Ensemble in a Drama Series award.
Dick Van Dyke was honored with the 49th Annual Life Achievement Award from SAG.
