"Snow White and the Huntsman" leads the weekend of new releases and looks to outshine "Men in Black 3".

After a disappointing Memorial Day weekend, Universal's $170 million picture Snow White and Huntsman looks to beat out all competition. The film which stars Charlize Theron (Young Adult), Kristen Stewart (Twilight) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) tells the story of Snow White and her battles. According to the Hollywood Reporter director Rupert Sanders and Universal worked together to turn the familiar story in a different direction, turning it into more of a female-empowerment adventure tale that plays out against an imaginatively-designed landscape. The film which opens a few months after the other Snow White film "Mirror Mirror" looks to find a bigger audience as it is darker than the more quirky take which was released unsuccessfully in March. Additionally after Universal's last failure with "Battleship" the studio is downplaying the expectations and is predicting a soft mid $30 million opening. Some prognosticators have the film opening with high $30 to low $40 million. A sequel is already in the works but it all depends on the opening weekend of the film.

The other film opening in wide release is "For Greater Glory." The Mexican war movie which stars Andy Garcia (The Godfather Part 3) and Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) tells the story of the Cristero War (1926-29) and Cristiada, one of the leaders of the war. Arc Entertainment is hoping to appeal to Catholic, and Hispanic audiences. The film which opens nationwide this weekend at 757 locations has enough awareness due to Arc's marketing campaign but it is  still a niche product that could have trouble reaching the Top 10.

Piranha 3DD will have a "Day and Date" opening in 86 theaters, Video on Demand, and digital platforms including Facebook.

"Men in Black 3" enters its second weekend after a soft $54 million over the three day weekend. According to Boxofficemojo.com the reason for this was due to Will Smith's 3 year hiatus from cinema and his loss of some fans. The film is expected to drop at least 52% making or $25 million over the weekend. That gross would put its total over the $100 million mark.

The Avengers will continue record breaking business and is predicted to make a solid 25$ million, which would put it in a close race for the second place this weekend.

In the arthouse world Oscar nominee "A Cat in Paris" opens in 5 theaters and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" will expand to 1,294 theaters. The film has already made a solid $20 million in just four weeks. After an outstanding opening Focus Features will expand "Moonrise Kingdom" into 12 locations for a total theater count of 16.  "Snow White and the Huntsman" leads the weekend of new releases and looks to outshine "Men in Black 3".
