The freshman Fox sitcom Ben and Kate is on its way out. Fox announced Thursday that it's pulling the show from its regular Tuesday timeslot and replacing it with reruns of "Raising Hope."

"Given Ben and Kate's ratings, the move wasn't a surprise," wrote James Hibberd in Entertainment Weekly. "If anything, some were shocked the show received an order for additional episodes last fall."

Hibberd added, "This isn't one of those decisions where you say, 'The network didn't give it a chance.'"

Ben and Kate, a sitcom about a brother who moves in with his sister to help her care for her young daughter, had suffered from low ratings throughout the season, averaging only 3.1 million viewers, according to EW. Fox's hit comedy New Girl, by contrast, averaged 6 million viewers last season.

Six new episodes from Ben's first season haven't even aired yet, but Fox promised in their announcement of the new Tuesday lineup that "Ben and Kate will return with all-new episodes at a later date."

Tuesday seems to be a bad night for TV comedy across the major networks, says EW's James Hibberd.

"NBC's two new series, 'Go On' and 'The New Normal,' both sank to new lows this week," he wrote, adding that they've seen "their ratings plunge since they were separated from the powerful lead-in of 'The Voice.'"
