Fans anticipating the announcement of the Playstation 4 will now have to wait until Microsoft unveils its own next-gen console to hear any official news, according to numerous reports.

According to Sony CEO Kaz Hirai, the company is ready to let its biggest competitors make the first move in the upcoming console war. "Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?" said Hirai.

Despite Nintendo's Wii U console already taking a head start, the comment indicates that Sony is not afraid of starting off the next console war last. Sony released the Playstation 3 last in the previous console war and sold fewer units than its immediate competitors, making this quote from Hirai surprising.

Little is known about Sony's forthcoming console; there have been rumors of different tech specs and titles coming to the consoles, but little is actually known about what the next console's experience will be like.

Sony did make big news recently when reports surfaced that the company would be abandoning its Dual Shock controller for the first time since 1998.

There has been no release window announced for the console, though speculation suggests a fall release. There are also rumors that Sony will also announce the console at an event prior to E3 in the summer.
