The next iPhone or "iPhone 5" could look like what the images display if the images obtained by 9to5mac.com, are indeed the real thing.

The world would have a new iPhone significantly larger than its predecessor, the iPhone 4S, and it would come with a larger screen size of approximately 4 inches and a new smooth metallic feel on the back side of the device.

The dock connector at the bottom would be half as small as the previous model and headphone jack would now be located at the bottom of the phone, not the top.

Also, it looks like the front-facing camera would be slightly moved to the center of the phone and a new microphone installed between the back-facing camera and the LED flash.

9to5Mac.com, popular for providing leaked and/or the latest rumors on Apple products also gave further details on what the apparent changes displayed in the pictures may signify,

"You can see the smaller dock connector at the bottom and it appears thinner overall. We are told the extra space on the bottom is used by Apple to enhance the speakers that will be louder and of a higher quality than the current iPhone. The supplier said the back plate is just one piece anchored by an aluminum alloy (not liquid metal)," wrote the website in a report.

The smarthphones appear in two colors, black and white, and its metallic finish does give it a very fancy look.

If the images are indeed true, then Apple is bidding on a larger device with a larger screen for the next version of its flagship smartphone. Perhaps it's following Samsung/Android's footsteps? Based on the images, the size of this new device appears to be similar in size to Samsung's Galaxy S3 or Galaxy S2.

Apple is known for modestly changing the design of its devices from one version to the next. One example is the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S that except for minimal changes, remained visually the same. Another example is the Macbooks that have, throughout the course of the past couple of years, largely remained physically the same.

If the pictures do indeed display the legitimate design, then it counters what a multiple of reports have been stating about a complete iPhone redesign with a new look.

Although Apple has not disclosed any prominent details regarding its next iPhone, various stories circling the internet, including CNET, report that the release may come as early as September or October.
