It's a bouncing baby boy for 'American Idol' alum Danny Gokey. The season eight finalist and his wife Leyicet welcomed their first child, son Daniel Emanuel Gokey, on Sunday, January 20, PEOPLE confirmed. Gokey also took to Twitter on Sunday to confirm the news, saying "Its Official, I'm a daddy!!! :)"
According to PEOPLE, the couple's son was born at 9:52 p.m. EST weighing in at 8 lbs. 11 oz. Mom Leyicet told fans she had "an extraordinary delivery" and that she was "so ecstatic!" in a Facebook message on Sunday.
In a statement released through the magazine, Gokey said, "Leyicet and I are overjoyed to welcome the new member of our family. I'm ecstatic to be a first time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with."
The first-time dad added, "Thankfully, because of what I do, it will also allow me the flexibility to spend a lot of quality time with him. I have so many exciting projects ahead this year but a brand new baby is an amazing way to get the new year started. We feel really blessed!"
According to E! News, the couple wed nearly a year ago on January 29, 2012 in a low-key ceremony in Florida. Gokey, 32, and his wife, 26, shared the news of their pregnancy just six months later. The marriage is the second for Gokey, who was previously married to Sophia Gokey, who passed away in 2008 following a routine surgery for congenital heart disease.
